CELEBRITY ICONS is a project that explores the relationship between celebrity and the collective unconscious. This project came from a fascination with the Christian iconography of my childhood and how that can be adopted and reused into celebrities with a collective meaning. The work canonizes celebrity and pop cultural figures into metaphysical energies that can be called upon for daily rituals. The celebrity or fictional character is selected through intuitive process. It’s as if the energy they evoke is asking for expression. Each icon embodies a specific persona or ethereal energy that is potent and unique to the celebrity. Why is the capacity of the collective impact of St. Peter, Vishnu, the Buddha or Christ any different than the collective consciousness we all have of Kurt Cobain or Robin Williams? This project explores those ideas.
