This is a collaborative piece created with artist Lily Swain investigating the frameworks necessary for academic success and personal growth present in traditional instructional models of education as induction versus an unconventional model of education as transformation.
The piece is divided into three parts. The first involving an exploration of traditional one room school houses in the form of a very technical drawing. The same drawing was then deconstructed. The final composition is a 3-Dimensional mobile that hoped to represent our mutual successes in the classroom.
Being more interested in the process of creating our artifact, we filmed all three parts, and consolidated them into a film that illustrates the transformation of our piece. The soundtrack to our film was a mix of an instructional educational video, transitioning into student performance of Pachelbel Canon transforming into a symphony recording of the piece.
